Inside-Out Leadership: Stepping In, Tuning In, and Carrying Forward What Matters
As I settle into my fourth week in this new leadership role, I’ve intentionally taken time to observe, listen, and learn before putting words to the experience. Those early days are where you begin forming not just strategy—but trust, understanding, and alignment.
There’s a unique clarity that comes when you intentionally tune in before stepping forward. You begin to notice the tone in the hallways, the rhythms of the teams, and the sense of pride people carry for the work they do and the community they serve.
I’ve always believed leadership starts from the inside out.
That means honoring the culture that already exists and taking time to understand what makes the team strong. It means stepping in with humility and genuine curiosity, asking the kinds of questions that invite insight and perspective, not just performance updates.
One of the most impactful parts of these first few weeks has been witnessing team members being celebrated—both by their peers and by the patients they serve. I've read patient comments where individuals remembered the names of nurses, techs, and other care team members because they went above and beyond to ease anxiety, offer reassurance, or provide clarity at a vulnerable moment.
It’s clear that AIDET isn’t just a tool here—it’s a way of being. I’ve seen it woven seamlessly into daily interactions in ways that reflect both compassion and consistency.
I’ve also had the chance to hear directly from providers who are deeply passionate—not only about the care they deliver but about the teams they work with and the communities they serve. Their pride, purpose, and commitment are energizing. It’s a reminder that operational excellence is only as strong as the culture that supports it.
One of the truths I carry forward is this: People don’t trust titles—they trust consistency over time. That means showing up, following through, and creating space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Inside-out leadership is about anchoring in values that don’t shift with the circumstance. It’s about aligning what we do with why we do it—and leading in a way that encourages others to bring their whole selves to the work.
This chapter is about more than systems and outcomes. It’s about people. It's about presence. And it's about continuing to learn what matters most—so that we can build on it, celebrate it, and strengthen it for the road ahead.
As I continue this journey, I remain committed to tuning in—with clarity, empathy, and intention.
