About Susan Burroughs, MHA, FACHE

Susan Burroughs, MHA, FACHE, is a seasoned healthcare executive with over 25 years of leadership experience across academic health systems, acute-care hospitals, and both private and government-owned organizations. She is known for her ability to lead operational transformation, expand service lines, and build high-performing teams that drive sustainable results in both rural and urban markets.

She currently serves as Vice President of Operations at Wilson Medical Center – A Duke LifePoint Hospital, a joint venture hospital with Duke Health and part of the LifePoint Health system. In this role, she oversees key service lines, optimizes hospital operations, and leads strategic initiatives that strengthen the hospital’s position in the region.

Susan brings deep familiarity with LifePoint Health, having previously served in operational leadership roles earlier in her career. Her return reflects her strong alignment with the organization’s mission and her ability to deliver results in dynamic healthcare environments.

Before rejoining LifePoint Health, Susan served as Chief Executive Officer at MUSC Health - Columbia Medical Center Northeast, where she oversaw hospital operations across multiple facilities and led strategic growth efforts throughout the Midlands Division of MUSC Health. She has also held executive roles at MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center and HCA Healthcare, consistently improving access to care, financial performance, and service line development.

With a proven track record as a hospital CEO, Susan brings a comprehensive leadership approach to hospital and health system transformation. She is especially skilled at aligning physician relationships, driving service line differentiation, and developing market-responsive strategies that keep organizations competitive and future-focused.

A Board-Certified Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Susan is a respected voice in hospital administration, leadership development, and healthcare innovation. She has served as President of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) and remains actively involved in national and regional leadership initiatives that promote equity, access, and sustainability.

Most recently, Susan was a featured panelist at ACHE Congress 2025, where she joined an inspiring group of women leaders to discuss “Embracing the Unknown: Leading Through Times of Uncertainty to Build a Clear and Shared Vision for the Future.”

She is especially passionate about reimagining care delivery through mixed-use healthcare models and commercial real estate strategies that expand access, improve community health outcomes, and position hospitals for long-term success.
